Yes, there are, but the only new process on Earth that has been identified that can account for the significant tipping of Earth's carbon balance is human activity, including deforestation, biomass burning, cement production, and—especially—fossil-fuel emissions.

Mount Agung in Indonesia erupted for the first time since 1963 causing widespread evacuations on the island of Bali. But is it a climate event?

Human activities emit 60 or more times the amount of carbon dioxide released by volcanoes each year.

In this short video from ClimateCentral, host Jessica Harrop explains what evidence scientists have for claiming that recent global warming is caused by humans and is not just part of a natural cycle.

Not a Mad Lib! Our blogger lays out some of the evidence for and against the notion that volcanic eruptions can trigger El Niño.

This is a classroom activity about the forcing mechanisms for the most recent cold period: the Little Ice Age (1350-1850). Students receive data about tree ring records, solar activity, and volcanic eruptions during this time period. By comparing and contrasting time intervals when tree growth was at a minimum, solar activity was low, and major volcanic eruptions occurred, they draw conclusions about possible natural causes of climate change and identify factors that may indicate climate change.
