Teaching Climate

This series of videos does an excellent job introducing coral bleaching and touches upon the subject of a project that breeds super corals. It also addresses climate solutions and things that everyone can do at home to help combat climate change.

In this learning activity, students analyze an actual dataset of the influence of temperature on tree growth. They use mathematical and statistical concepts like slope equations and lines of best fit to determine the relationship. They are then asked to make predictions about future tree growth under different greenhouse gas emissions, interpreting data from climate models to make these predictions.

The resource combines short summaries of the steps of coral bleaching with more in-depth (though still succinct) explanations for what is happening to cause the coral to appear white.
