The CLEAN collection is hand-picked and rigorously reviewed for scientific accuracy and classroom effectiveness. Read what our review team had to say about this resource below or learn more about how CLEAN reviews teaching materials.

  • Within the main page are several links to additional resources and pages, which could quickly overwhelm students. Teachers should consider how to help guide students through the resource and how to stay organized with the number of tabs required to fully explore this resource. Teachers should plan to create a worksheet, or a set of instructions to help guide students through this resource and assess their understanding. The resource could also be used to complement a group project or classroom activity. Teachers might assign students to investigate patterns for specific hazards, or to investigate a specific location to better understand its vulnerabilities and opportunities to improve resilience. Teachers could extend this activity by having students investigate a climate-related hazard that has occurred in their area (or nationwide), or the policies currently in place to support the community in the event of a climate-related hazard. This resource will be most effective for Grades 9-12 and college level. However, middle school teachers may consider using it with significant scaffolding or as a visualization shown to the students.
