I have been hearing talk of another SST anomaly in the northeastern pacific, referred to as "the blob" covering a region from Oregon to Alaska. Do I understand correctly that this anomaly has never occurred before at the same time as a strong El Nino? Are there any models or theories about how the presence of the two anomalies may affect weather patterns differently that with a strong El Nino alone?
