. Radiosonde from Kiritimati! In 1962 Air Force

I enjoyed the piece. Yeah, too; you used radiosonde weather balloons from Kiritimati; so did I during 1962 upper atmosphere Nuclear Detonations and Tests. Just fun to see. Sixth Weather Squadron (Mobile), Fourth Weather Group, out of Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. The Air Force provided 49% of all upper atmosphere balloon soundings until 1963 or so. If there were records, we launched thousands of rawinsonde (same thing) balloons from all over the Pacific: Hawaii, French Frigate Shoals, Kapingimarangi, Palmyra, Christmas, Johnston, American Samoa, and a host of other mobile locations. We had to perfect our nukes before we signed a treaty with Russia in Fall of 1962. Twenty-nine missile sites just on Johnston Island. And significantly, we reached the brink of nuclear war with Russia in October 1962. Cuban Missile Crisis. Every one of our B-52 Bombers were flying high cover for three days at least.
