Nino 3.4 vs 1.2
Permalink
I find it interesting that this La Nina is not too far of from the 98 La Nina in the 3.4 zone. Where as in Nino 1.2, things are much different (cooler than normal in 98, warmer than normal now). This is somewhat similar to how last year's El Nino was as strong or stronger in Nino 3.4, but WAY weaker in Nino 1.2 This all leads me to think that we cannot look at past analogs. In addition, both last year's El Nino and this year's La Nina are a bit westward displaced. I might even call our La Nina a modoki.
