I am really struck by how strong the positive anomalies are off the coast of South America now. I know we had one of the strongest El Niño events ever recorded last year, and it seems if this trend continues, we might end up with another strong El Niño event by the end of the year. I know the forecasts are extremely unreliable this time of year, but looking at the SST Anomalies charts for around this time in 2014, 2009, 2006, 2002, and even 1997 didn't have values this positive before those El Niño events. Are we really in for such an unprecedented reversal?
