Ok, so we hear and talk about El Nino and La Nina weather phenomenon but how does that tie into crop production following these events. So, I'm a corn, wheat, and cotton farmer from Texas. We all know that nighttime temperatures and rainfall have a large influence on overall corn yield especially in the period before and during pollination. What I cannot seem to get strong correlation on is final corn yield (due to nighttime temperature and rainfall during pollination) in years following El Nino versus years following La Nina. I've plotted final yields versus the three month overlapping averages(DJF, JFM, etc...) and cannot find that there are any strong indicators. Can someone help?
