Deep Atlantic Water
Permalink
If we have more and stronger counter clockwise circulation over the Arctic, this will likely cause ocean circulation, especially the Beaufort Gyre, to reverse. In a counter clockwise rotation in the Northern Hemisphere, to-the-right is away from the center so we should see expulsion of the ice and fresher water, bringing the deeper salty warmer Atlantic water closer to the surface. This should cause accelerated melting of glaciers on Greenland that are grounded below sea level and make it much more difficult for ice to form each year over the ocean. Basically another tipping point. Not to mention, the effect of this warmer water on the permafrost and 'clathrate permafrost' on the continental shelf of Russia and America.
