Hi Armando. Thank you for your comments. You are absolutely right. El Nino events are usually seeded in boreal spring, and then slowly build-up to their peaks in boreal winter. On your second question/comment, I am not aware of any study linking Atlantic Nino to rainfall variability across Central America. However, it is possible that Atlantic Nino can modulate the frequency of African easterly waves to influence Atlantic hurricane activity and thus summer rainfall over the Caribbean Sea. This is on-going research being carried out at NOAA's Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory.
