PNA affects Utah
Permalink
The winter outlook blog is a fantastic climatological analysis. The negative PNA pattern definitely correlated to cold and snowy weather from the Pacific Northwest, to here in Utah. In the second week of December, much of the state, including Salt Lake City, transitioned into a much colder and snowy pattern. By early January, a transition back to drier weather developed that strongly continued through February, when the PNA went positive. The PDO (Pacific Decadal) has interested me in the past. They are both influenced by ENSO. Since PNA is pressure related, it is more interesting on a shorter timescale. Thank You!
